Shelden Healthcare can provide a team of experienced auditors to undertake a range of specialist audits to include:

Point prevalence audit to give a snap shot view of current pressure ulcer activity across the organisation. This can be expanded upon to include any newly developed or existing pressure ulcers that may be useful when capturing safety thermometer data.

Pressure Relieving Mattress Audit

Shelden Healthcare can provide a team of experienced auditors to undertake a comprehensive audit of the organisations pressure relieving mattress systems.

Pressure Relieving mattress data collected would include:

  • Make and model of pressure relieving mattress type
    i.e. Replacement, overlay, Low air loss mattress
  • Comment on each mattresses and pump condition
  • Last service date
  • Last P.A.T test date
  • Any known or observed faults
  • Correct type of mattress for patient risk
  • Correct weight setting for patient if applicable
  • Audit can be expanded to include pressure ulcer prevalence and cross referenced with patient data. eg risk status/pressure ulcers

Foam Mattress Audit

Shelden Healthcare can provide a team of experienced auditors to undertake a comprehensive audit of the organisations foam mattresses.

Foam mattress audit, the protocol to include:

  • Mattress type
  • Mattress depth
  • Cover condition
  • Foam condition
  • Fist test
  • Pass or fail

Bed Frame Audit

Shelden Healthcare can provide a team of experienced auditors to undertake a comprehensive audit of the organisations bed frames.

Bed Frame audit, the protocol to include:

  • Type of bed
  • Brake check
  • Type of bed base
  • Type of safety sides
  • Condition of safety sides
  • Comment on compliance of safety sides/mattress and bed combination to IEC 60601-2-52
  • Infection control
  • Pedals and rubbers
  • Pass or fail

Protocol

Shelden Healthcare have a dedicated and experienced Audit team who will tailor any audit to the specific requirements of the Trust and to capture all information required by the Trust.

01. Initial Meeting

Initial meeting with Trust and Shelden Healthcare Advisor to agree the requirements of the Audit and confirm the Trust Assessment Policies and equipment selection protocol.

02. Draft Audit

Draft Audit plan submitted by Shelden Healthcare to the Trust for agreement including:-
• Confirmation of Report Requirements
• Confirmation of Assessment protocols and equipment selection protocols
• Dated Plan including Pre Audit Meetings, Data Collection & Report Provision
• Confirmation of names of the Audit teams
– each team will consist of a member from the Trust accompanying a Shelden Healthcare team member for validation
• Confirmation of the requirements of ward staff to prepare for the Audit
– this would usually include ensuring that all patients have a documented completed risk assessment and pressure ulcer grading reassessment 24 hours before the date of Audit
• Confirmation of communication to be sent to Ward Managers in advance of Audit detailing requirements and dates

03. Pre Audit Meeting

Shelden Healthcares Nurse Advisor will meet with each ward and department either in a meeting forum or by visiting each ward/department individually to explain the Audit process and the preparation required

04. Data Collection

The agreed Audit Teams will visit each ward to collect the audit data in accordance with dated time Audit Ward / Department plan

05. Report Production

Report produced and submitted within 10 working days. Presentation undertaken as agreed.

06. Data Logging

Data logged so that Trend information can be reports in subsequent Audits.
